About California Institute for Rural Studies

Since 1977, California Institute for Rural Studies (CIRS) has been the only non-profit organization in California with a mission to conduct public interest research to be put into action to support California's rural communities in becoming healthy and empowered.

Within these broad program areas we do essential work on issues including rural health, fair labor practices for farmworkers, market barriers to small farmers, water use & policy, pesticide use, food insecurity & access. With a body of work that spans over 35 years, we are a great resource for local communities, public health workers, advocates, researchers, media and policy makers. Visit our website!
